Group on Earth Observations (GEO)

Abstract

This presentation will address the value of geospatial information for disaster management, notably the role of Earth observations for disaster risk reduction in line with the Sendai Framework.   Highlights on  the importance of using geospatial frameworks which  help governments prepare, prevent, respond to and recover from disasters will help the decision makers to understand the role of Geospatial services in Disaster Management. An example will be provided relating to the collaboration between the Group on Earth Observations (GEO) and the United Nations Committee of Experts on Global Geospatial Information Management (UN-GGIM). An outline of the key elements of the Strategic Framework for Geospatial Information and Services for Disasters will close the presentation
